Stanley slope wins landscape competition

Lung Tak Court in Stanley has won the award for the best landscaped slope in a competition organised by the Civil Engineering Department and community groups. The first runner-up went to Sau Mau Ping Estate III. Hong Kong International School and 127 Repulse Bay Road  tied for the third spot.

Driver in hospital  after car crash injures seven

Seven people including two drivers were injured when a car slammed into the back of another vehicle in Yau Ma Tei. The five men and two women, aged between 18 and 43, were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the crash in the Tsim Sha Tsui-bound Nathan Road near the junction of Jordan Road at 4.30am. One of the drivers, 43, was in a serious condition, while the others were discharged after treatment.

Midnight fire damages 14 bikes in tseung kwan o

Firemen are investigating a blaze that damaged 14 motorcycles in Tseung Kwan O. Fire and police officers were called to a motorcycle parking area under a footbridge on Chung Wa Road after the blaze was reported at 12.30am. The fire  was extinguished before 1am and an initial investigation showed there were no suspicious circumstances.

mother's death drives man to suicide

A man, 24, who was depressed after his mother died on Saturday was found dead in his Wong Tai Sin apartment after gassing himself.  His body was found in bed beside a pot containing charcoal in his Yan Oi Street unit when his cousin visited him at 8am. In a separate case, a man, 71, died after he jumped from a footbridge in Po Lam Road North near Yan Ming Court at 3pm.

drink-drive charge after van tips over

A man was arrested for alleged drink-driving after his goods van toppled over in Yau Ma Tei. The driver, 26, and his female  passenger, 25, were uninjured when the accident happened in Gascoigne Road near the junction of Jordan Road just after 1am. Police said the driver was arrested after he failed a breathalyser test and freed on bail of $5,000.

unidentified body found floating off tai po

Police were trying to establish the identity of a man whose body was found floating off Tai Po. The body, believed to be that of a man over 60, was seen off the Dai King Street waterfront at 7.30am.  No ID was found on him.

hill fire extinguished

About 70 firemen and a helicopter crew spent about 18 hours putting out a hill fire that broke out at Fei Ngo Shan, also known as Kowloon Peak, at 4pm on Sunday. No one was  hurt.
