Defendant tells court he thought one of the victims, 11, wanted him dead
A man accused of murdering two young girls in a black magic ritual yesterday told a jury that the girls threatened him and his family moments before he killed them.
Duong Vinh Cuong, 39, gave his version of the events that led to the deaths of Chan Lok-man, 11, and Yim Pui-shan, 10, in December 2002. He has pleaded not guilty to their murders as well as to the attempted murder of his three children.
Duong said Lok-man - who disappeared on December 4, 2002 - followed his children into a taxi at Yuen Long Plaza after she tried to convince his daughter, Yee Lam, now four, to hand over a children's game card she was carrying.
He said that when they arrived at their home in Pak Sha Tsuen, Yuen Long, he went upstairs and phoned his estranged wife, but she refused to return and told him she had a new boyfriend. Duong said he felt 'collapsed'.
He said that after the phone call, Lok-man came upstairs and continued pestering him for his daughter's game card collection.
