HONG Kong's Lee Lai-shan, better known as San San, is eagerly looking forward to the start of the World Championships in Japan tomorrow when she lines up against Zhang Xiaodong of China. Lee, a two-time Asian champion who won three of the four major European regattas early in the summer, has beaten every leading woman windsurfer in the world except the Chinese star. Zhang, the silver medallist at last year's Barcelona Olympics, beat Lee for the gold medal at the 1990 Asian Games. ''San San is really happy that Zhang is here,'' said Hong Kong coach Rene Appel yesterday. He added: ''All the top girls are present with the only notable absentee being Poland's Joanna Burzynska. ''But Joanna's name is on the entry list and there is still a possibility she will make it before the racing gets underway on Sunday.'' The Hong Kong squad, including men board-sailors Sam Wong Tak-sum and Ken Wong Hop-hi, were one of the earliest teams to arrive in Kashiwazaka. Appel is happy with the form of all his three charges - although they have not done any training for the past two days due to still conditions. He said: ''Winds have been light since we arrived. ''We've rested completely for the last two days, but that's good as it gives us a break before the competition.''
