Smash-hit musical Mamma Mia!, which is based on 22 Abba songs, will open in Hong Kong this summer.
Performances of the Australian production will begin in June at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The show has toured major Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, where the show is currently running.
Mamma Mia!, written by Catherine Johnson, is set on a small Greek island, where a bride-to-be decides to find out who her real father is on the eve of her wedding. Three men from her mother's past life are brought back to the island.
Three actors will arrive on Tuesday to launch pre-show publicity. They will perform a scene from the show and Abba songs such as Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All and Mama Mia.
The show, featuring music and lyrics by Abba members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, opened in London in 1999. Since then, 11 international productions have been staged in cities including Tokyo and Seoul, where the shows have been translated for their audiences.
Swedish pop group Abba had a string of No1 hits during the 1970s and 1980s, starting with Waterloo, with which they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and which also launched them on their road to chart-topping fame. Some of their other hits included Take a Chance on Me, SOS and Fernando.
