Official faces disciplinary action over Tung Chung river boulders
A government officer will face disciplinary action for failing to verify the source of boulders excavated from the Tung Chung river and allowing them to be used at an artificial lake project beside the Disney theme park.
An internal probe into the Civil Engineering Department's role in the Tung Chung river incident had been completed, Dr Liao told the South China Morning Post.
'We have thoroughly examined the case and we found that the only inappropriate thing is that our colleagues let the boulders into the work site without verifying its source,' said Dr Liao.
The investigation had identified an officer from the Civil Engineering Department as being responsible and he would face disciplinary action.
But the secretary for the environment, transport and works did not specify what that would be.
About 400 tonnes of boulders were taken to the artificial lake in Penny's Bay, where the Disney theme park is being built, before the Lands Department stopped the illegal river excavation work late last year.
