A 19-year-old tutor was given a three-year jail term yesterday for molesting two young students, in what his trial judge called 'despicable and detestable' behaviour.

Judge Judianna Barnes Wai-ling said Mok Ning-fung used the innocent victims, an eight-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl, to gratify his sexual desires. The part-time tutor, a second-year student at the University of Manitoba in Canada, had pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent assault and two of indecent conduct towards a child under 16.

Mok molested the boy on one occasion between July 25 and August 5 last year, in a toilet at the tutorial centre where he instructed the boy.

He assaulted the girl on August 11 last year. She told her mother and the police were called.

'There is conflicting opinion between two clinical psychologists as to whether the defendant has already developed paedophilia,' Judge Barnes said in the District Court.

'Nevertheless, I do have to bear in mind that the defendant assaulted a young boy and a young girl.'
