Bronze busts of the six medical workers who gave up their lives in the battle against Sars are unveiled yesterday at the Airport Express station in Central.

The busts, commissioned by the New Century Forum public policy think-tank, were created by artist Chu Tat-shing and his students. Legislator Ma Fung-kwok, convenor of the New Century Forum, said the group wanted to show its gratitude towards medical workers and at the same time remind the public to be on guard against a possible return of the disease.

The workers who died were (from below left) health-care assistant Tang Heung-may, doctor Joanna Tse Yuen-man, nurse Lau Wing-kai, health-care assistants Lau Kam-yung and Wong Kang-tai - whose sculpture is in the foreground of the photograph above - and doctor Kate Cheng Ha-yan. Their sculptures will be displayed in Hong Kong station until Thursday. They will then be displayed at Olympic station from Friday until next Tuesday, then at Tsing Yi station until March 8.

The government plans to put them on permanent display at the Museum of Medical Sciences in Mid-Levels.
