Cafe Deco is more than a classy dining venue; it is also a museum for stylish art deco artefacts. Among the many vintage pieces is the 10-metre bar counter, dating back to 1939, which is installed in the Deco Bar. The counter's original home was Queens, New York.

The level of service at Cafe Deco reflects the stylish setting. Behind the bar are some of the city's best bartenders (including some award winners), who create drinks for diners at the 250-seat restaurant and 40-seater bar. The Italian Bar, which serves 380, also features art deco artwork.

The bartenders are required to complete a drink order in 20 seconds, says senior bartender Ng Chi-man, who recently rejoined the bar after a one-year stint in Britain. Mr Ng and his fellow bartenders are veritable encyclopedias of cocktail recipes. 'We have to know 40 to 60 recipes off the top of our heads.'

Mr Ng says his well-stocked bar can handle more than 500 recipes. 'Sometimes it's a drink the guest has had elsewhere. From their description and my experience, I can recreate them.'

Deco Bar is also a live jazz venue - Monday to Saturday from 7.30pm - featuring the Mike Inot Jazz Ensemble.
