The EOC's chairwoman says she will improve its public relations work to enhance transparency in the wake of last year's controversies.
Patricia Chu Yeung Pak-yu said the EOC's credibility had been affected by the dismissal of incoming director of operations Patrick Yu Chung-yin in October, and by the resignation the following month of the man who sacked him, then EOC chairman Michael Wong Kin-chow. Mrs Chu said: 'To build up credibility [and] enable people to understand our work, communication is really important.'
The EOC is reviewing its organisation, mission and vision and cost-effectiveness. It will also ask an independent panel to assess its human resources management.
It will also study the possibility of creating an equal opportunities tribunal to handle discrimination-related cases.
