Veuve Clicquot has decided to launch its Business Woman of the Year award in Hong Kong because of its entrepreneurial spirit, with four of the city's brightest commercial lights shortlisted to win the prize this week.

Cecile Bonnefond, chief executive and president of Veuve Clicquot, said: 'We decided to launch the Veuve Clicquot Award Business Woman of the Year in Hong Kong because we felt there is an entrepreneurial spirit and strong culture of opportunity here for those businesswomen who, like our founder Madame Clicquot, have the audacity and vision to seize it.

'The quality of entries truly reflects the breadth and scope of businesses that women successfully operate in Hong Kong.'

After months of review, the shortlisted candidates are (from left):

Wendy Cho Yuen-yi, chairwoman of furniture maker Ultra Group; Elaine Leung, founder of internet-based bookstore paddyfield.com; Caroline Mak Siu-king, chief executive of Mannings; and Betty Yuen, managing director of CLP Power.

Ms Bonnefond will present the award on Friday at the Intercontinental Hotel.
