Product: Archos Gmini 220 Price: $2,980 Pros: Small, light, a 40-gigabyte version is available. The audio is excellent and it doubles as an image bank Cons: Poor interface, low-contrast mono screen. Cannot beat the iPod on the cool factor
If you are looking for a music player that doubles up as a place to dump your digital images while you are on the road or on vacation, the Gmini 220 from Archos is a good choice.
Gmini (pronounced 'ji-mi-ney') is a 20-gigabyte hard disk device dominated by a 2.5-inch screen about the same size and weight as an Apple iPod and weighing just 170 grams.
The better known iPod would also be its main competition.
The music playback quality is excellent. The player supports both MP3 and WMA files at bit rates of up to 320 kilobits per second.
The player's rubberised edges help it stay put on a tabletop or in your pocket, and it fits nicely in your hand.
