If you are looking for a music player that doubles up as a place to dump your digital images while you are on the road or on vacation, the Gmini 220 from Archos is a good choice.
Gmini (pronounced 'ji-mi-ney') is a 20-gigabyte hard disk device dominated by a 2.5-inch screen about the same size and weight as an Apple iPod and weighing just 170 grams.
The better known iPod would also be its main competition.
The music playback quality is excellent. The player supports both MP3 and WMA files at bit rates of up to 320 kilobits per second.
The player's rubberised edges help it stay put on a tabletop or in your pocket, and it fits nicely in your hand.
There's an 'On' button near the microphone and controls for stop/off and play/pause.
The iPod beats the Gmini in ease of use. The Gmini's interface is average and the low-contrast mono screen makes navigation a bit of a pain in bright daylight.
