A new television programme dedicated to previews and reviews of Hong Kong's art events will make its debut tonight.

The programme, The Works, produced by Radio Television Hong Kong, will carry news of major art events being staged around the city.

Scheduled for inclusion are the Fringe Festival organised by the Fringe Club and various film festivals such as the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The programme will discuss current affairs related to the arts, such as the controversial West Kowloon cultural hub project and government funding for the arts. Also planned for the 13 half-hour, weekly episodes are interviews with performers, producers and critics.

A regular movie review slot will also be included. Although the Oscars were announced on Monday, film critic Gary Pollard will present his opinions on the nominations and winners.

The programme aims to fill a vacuum in information on the arts on English TV channels. 'We realised there was not much coverage of the arts in Hong Kong on English television channels, despite the fact that there is a great deal happening in Hong Kong,' said Jim Gould, executive producer.

The first programme will be presented by Tinnie Chow, columnist of CitySeen of the South China Morning Post and Ben Pelletier, music director of RTHK's Radio 4.
