Here is your chance to peek inside a brothel - at no cost to your wallet or reputation. This rare opportunity comes in the form of a photo exhibition, entitled 'My life - photographic works by sex workers'. The project allows sex workers to show their side of the story through a collection of snapshots they took themselves. It was organised by Zi Teng, a concern group for the industry's workers.
The exhibition sets out to remove the stigma of being in the sex profession and to show that it is an honourable calling (well, according to Sandra Ng Kwun-yu in the film Golden Chicken). Zi Teng handed out cameras to 40 sex workers to document their life in brothels.
'I took these photos to entertain myself. At the same time I hope those who don't approve of our profession will get a good look at what our workplace is like,' one wrote. 'Please don't think we only know how to make love; we also care about our society,' penned another.
In this case, pictures do indeed speak louder than words.
Other than self-portraits in sexy lingerie, sex toys and lipstick, viewers get to understand more of the women's lives - their pets, walls of poetry and choices of painting. In one shot, you can even spot Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa being watched on television.
