Product: Sony Vaio PCG-K66P Price: $14,980 Pros: Beautiful design, good specifications and lots of useful software, especially for multimedia mavens Cons: Media slot supports only Memory Stick
When it comes to designing consistently good-looking laptops, no one does it better than Sony. The latest Vaio notebook, the PCG-K66P, which features a two-colour tone design in light silver and metallic black, makes a stylish companion.
The K66P has been designed with ergonomics in mind. A tilted palm rest and a metallic black keyboard are wrapped in a wedge-shaped chassis.
The wireless laptop uses an Intel Pentium 4 processor at 2.8 gigahertz and users get an option to have either 802.11b or the higher bandwidth 802.11g installed.
As always, Sony's displays are among the best available on laptops. Its 15-inch XGA (1024 x 768) TFT colour display delivers a vibrant, bright screen with outstanding colour resolution for video playback. It reduces reflection and glare without weakening and diffusing the light from the screen itself. This brightness offers enhanced contrast and images with true-to-life colours.
The PCG-K66P offers 512 megabytes of memory and 60 gigabytes of hard disk and comes with a Memory Stick media slot. This was the laptop's one letdown - most laptops support at least four to six flash card formats.
