Animation fans are in for a treat at this year's 28th Hong Kong International Film Festival, which will showcase more than 300 local and international productions.
The highlight of the programme is the world premiere of Winter Days, a compilation of the finest works by 35 acclaimed animation directors such as Japan's Takahato Isao (Grave of the Fireflies) and masters from Belgium, the Czech Republic, China, Russia and other countries. Winter Days showcases animations of different styles, ranging from puppet shows to Western and traditional Chinese drawings.
Other cartoon features include Nasu: Summer in Andalusia by Kosaka Kitaro, who was the animation director for Hayao Miyazaki on Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away; Kon Satoshi's Tokyo Fathers, a dark tale about Tokyo; and Mercano the Martian by Juan Antin from Argentina.
The festival is also focusing on little-known films, such as Osama, the first movie made in Afghanistan after the fall of the Taleban. It details the injustices faced by the country's women.
