DISSIDENT Wei Jingsheng has been moved from a guesthouse north of Beijing, where he has been held since his release from prison, after a Western journalist discovered his whereabouts.
Mr Wei had been staying at a villa in the Mingyuan Hotel in Changping County near the Ming Tombs since his release on parole last Tuesday but was hurriedly moved by the large contingent of police guarding him after the journalist turned up unannounced atthe hotel on Saturday.
The reporter managed to enter the hotel but was stopped by police when he reached courtyard No 7, where Mr Wei was staying.
All 25 rooms in the courtyard were booked out by the police, hotel staff said.
The entire entourage had moved out by the time other reporters arrived yesterday morning.
Mr Wei has not returned to his parents' home and his whereabouts are again unknown.
The former political prisoner's sudden disappearance again casts doubts on the assertions made by his family that he is staying away from Beijing voluntarily.
