'I'm sure he would acquit himself very well if he's invited to run [at Shaheen],' says hopeful trainer
Multidandy may still secure an invitation to represent Hong Kong at the US$2-million Golden Shaheen in Dubai on March 27 despite missing a place in yesterday's litmus test against freakish stablemate Silent Witness in the Group One Centenary Sprint Cup.
The Danehill gelding's chance went up in smoke in the opening seconds of the race when he failed to break cleanly, and then came off second best in a bumping duel with the thoroughly seasoned sprinter Firebolt.
While trainer Tony Cruz and jockey Douglas Whyte had expected Multidandy to be freewheeling at the head of affairs, where he could use his prodigious speed, the massive gelding was put in the hopeless predicament of conceding a two-length start to an unpressured Silent Witness at level weights.
Ultimately, Multidandy checked in fourth, beaten by 43/4 lengths behind the world's best sprinter in the Group One, weight-for-age contest.
Silent Witness won the race as a $11.50 favourite (for $10) by 21/2 lengths from Cape of Good Hope, with Firebolt a half length away in third and Multidandy fourth.
