Product: Motorola E680 Price: Not available Pros: Large colour screen, all-in-one device with large built-in memory Cons: No expansion slot, so-so camera
An upcoming mobile phone to look out for is the Motorola E680, which was announced recently at Motorola's big fashion launch in Miami.
The Motorola E680 resembles the Sony Ericsson S700C without the swivel-out keypad feature. About the size of the Nokia 6600, it sports a large screen and doubles as an entertainment unit optimised for gaming, messaging, music and digital imaging. It is also an MP3 player.
The E680's VGA camera with 8X digital zoom is capable of both picture and video capture and playback. The 340x320 colour screen supports mpeg4 video compression, so you can send video by e-mail or MMS. The phone comes with integrated Bluetooth.
Motorola is also pitching the E680 as a productivity tool that can replace your personal digital assistant. It uses Java on the Linux OS platform, USB connectivity and up to one gigabyte of user-expandable memory.
The specifications look impressive but we will not get too excited until we get our hands on the real thing for a thorough test.
