A loanshark who forced a debt-ridden policeman to strip down to his socks in front of a camera was sentenced to 31/2 years' jail by the District Court yesterday.
Yee Bik-wai, 37, was convicted of loansharking, assault, actual bodily harm and blackmail. He had denied the charges.
Policeman Chan Wing-kai, whose age and rank were not disclosed in court, had earlier told Judge Judianna Barnes Wai-ling he was ordered to strip naked - except for his socks - inside a karaoke bar in Jordan in 2002.
Mr Chan said he stripped after a friend of Yee threatened to feed him with excrement if he did not follow the order. Yee took three or four photos with a digital camera before Mr Chan was allowed to leave the bar.
Mr Chan said that to deal with his financial difficulties in late 2001 he borrowed $80,000 from a Macau loanshark, but the debt rose to $180,000 before he could pay it off.
He came to know Yee through a former police colleague, Mo Pui-tak. Mr Mo was given 'qualified' immunity to testify against Yee, according to prosecutor Valentine Yim.
