In-house sale

Britain
Adele Rosi
An interiors dream team comprising creative consultant Ilse Crawford, architect John Pawson and *wallpaper founder Tyler Brule has devised a comprehensive range of reasonably priced, design-led furniture for Marks & Spencer, which was unveiled in Britain three weeks ago. Pawson has designed a two-storey, 3,000-square-foot house (right) within what is called a Marks & Spencer Lifestore. Crawford has arranged the pieces, all of which are for sale, to give it that lived-in look. Although only a handful of devout Hong Kong furniture hounds might make the trek to Gateshead near Newcastle, the home of this first Lifestore, to browse the 12,000 or so products on show (above and top right), about 2,200 of them can be purchased by mail-order from the Marks & Spencer Design Directory (tel: 44 845 603 1603) and 3,000 bought online from www.marksandspencer.

com - but for delivery in Britain only. Coinciding with this British news, a window display of furniture at Marks & Spencer on Queen's Road Central raised many a homeware fan's hope that the store would be bringing these sought-after home accessories to our shores. Alas, the display was for a fashion show and M&S Hong Kong is sticking to clothes, beauty and food for now.
