The article headlined 'Islamists would ban miniskirts' (March 19), about Malaysia's opposition PAS party seeking to impose dress codes on non-Muslim women, includes the remark from its women's leader: the way women dress in public could sexually arouse men, who would then have to satisfy their lust.
Indeed, reports from Malaysia are of large numbers of rape, incest and female homicide cases. This is not about clothing styles - laws on human rights are not being enforced. But imposing a strict dress code on women encourages the male power game, long the bane of this planet. Malaysia may be doing fine economically, but it is still in the Dark Ages if it keeps promoting a mindset that categorises females as inferior.
