CHINA market for semicon equipment WORTH US$1B
The market for new semiconductor equipment in China reached US$1.16 billion last year, according to a survey by two trade associations. The total included $953 million from front-end equipment including wafer manufacturing, masking and factory automation, and $203 million from final manufacturing equipment, assembly, packaging and testing.
SCIENCE PARK LICENCES ARM CHIP SYSTEM
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corp has licensed one of the leading risc chip systems from Britain's Arm. The ARM7TDMI core will be made available to young companies and fabless chip firms based in the Science Park's IC Design/Development Support Centre.
Computing Goes MOBILE
Computer users in Hong Kong are set to drive the inexorable move into mobile computing this year as the industry rallies. Research firm Gartner said while personal computer shipments would probably grow 4.8 per cent this year, the mobile PC market was expected to grow by 17 per cent.
