The sexy shoe test

Even scientists are getting in on the Sex and the City mania. The Institute of Physics in England has devised a mathematical formula which calculates how high Carrie Bradshaw's high heels can reach before she actually topples over. The 'variables' include:

p: 'pull' factor, the probability that the shoes will help you 'pull';

y: the number of years' experience you have in wearing high heels;

t: the months since the shoes were the height of fashion - you can bear some pain if they're very trendy;

a: the units of alcohol consumed. If you plan to drink, give yourself some leeway for reduced co-ordination.
