I'm looking for a classic white vest/tank top for the summer. I want good-quality, preferably combed cotton that won't pill. It needs to be plain - no print or fancy details - and the fit must be perfect. Price is not important. Any suggestions? Jane, Sai Kung The Dictator rules: Since the return of the trashy tracksuit (which looks good on about one per cent of the population), it was only a matter of time before the vest made its way back to the country club. Mango (L125, Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong, tel: 2265 7137, www.mango.com ) has the widest selection in town ($99 to $175), in cotton rib, cotton-elastane, modal-elastane, viscose-poly and more. Styles range from classic T-back to spaghetti straps to more interesting details such as peek-a-boo circles on the back. Armani Exchange (Shop 101, Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2537 3118) has one with quite wide shoulder straps and a modest V-neck in a cotton-Spandex mixture that's sure to fit well ($390). Esprit's choices include a cotton ribbed V-neck with wider-than-usual straps ($129; Shop 2219, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2317 1312, www.esprit.com.hk ), and an ultra-fine cotton round-neck vest ($99). For something more lingerie-like, see Benetton's thin-strapped viscose-poly vest ($125; Shop 2, Fashion Island, Causeway Bay, tel: 2808 0582), or live a little in one of their subtly adorned ones. For a nice ghetto glam touch, get Allen B's classic ribbed white tank with rhinestone trim ($850; Lane Crawford, Pacific Place, tel: 2118 3668). Buying swimsuits has always been a nightmare for me. I'm petite, especially on top. Is there anywhere in Hong Kong I can buy a bikini that will fit? I don't want to have to go online. Top Weary, Pok Fu Lam The Dictator: Oh stop whingeing/showing off. As if anyone believes being petite is a curse. I've recommended shops that sell tops and bottoms separately so many times it's too tedious to go through them again. Luckily for you there's one I haven't mentioned yet. The Sabina Swims line was designed by our good pal Sabina Wong Sutch with girls like you in mind. Choose one of the fun tops - from a simple bandeau to our new favourite, the Modest Me halter tankini, each made with removable non-torpedo pads - then pick from the wide range of matching bottoms. The low-riding, belted James Bond is perfect for exiting the water dramatically a la Ursula Andress. Unlike the luminous surfer brands that are so common, Sabina Swims colours are understatedly cool, such as the pretty olive and lilac. Suits come in solid colours and retro geometric and floral patterns, and many bottoms are reversible. You'll even find gorgeous little details such as carved jade beads on ties and shell hoops on belts. Each piece costs $350 to $390, taking the price for a bikini to less than $800. What more could you want? Find Sabina Swims at Seibu (Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2971 3888), Jilian (31C Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2826 9295), and at www.sabinaswims.com . Rumour has it a new showroom is opening soon. I hear white highlighting make-up can brighten my face. Where can I get some? Pale And Interested, Kennedy Town The Dictator: Unless you want to be mistaken for the moon, use the following products sparingly on cheeks, chin and forehead. Tony & Tina makes a lovely Herbal Face Dew ($260; Faces, Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3102 1610) that comes in a mirrored compact and is filled with the likes of chamomile, aloe and vitamins. Giorgio Armani Cosmetics does a lovely Fluid Sheer series of light illuminating fluids, including the subtle white col. 01 ($330; Shop 109, Chater House, Central, tel: 2532 7733). If you prefer something more powdery, try Make Up For Ever's versatile eyeshadow in Pearl ($120; Seibu, Windsor House, Causeway Bay, tel: 2882 2325). Apply alone or over foundation. As summer approaches, consider more golden or pink-toned highlighters.
