Rose charities has an annual operating budget of US$150,000 and has received donations of equipment from US hospitals. Each operation costs the organisation only between US$10 and US$50.
Rose has affiliations with medical schools at the University of Toronto and University of Hong Kong. Jim Gollogly, originally from Britain, worked in the US before he joined Rose. He is the chief executive officer of Rose charities Cambodia and also heads the medical centre.
Dr Gollogly arrives in Hong Kong today to raise funding for the centre. He will speak at the Hong Kong Club and the Helena May, as well as participating in a radio programme on RTHK Radio 3.
Rose charities is an international non-governmental organisation incorporated in the US as a non-profit body with a mission to help disabled people in developing countries return to a more normal lifestyle by surgically correcting their disabilities.
The motto of the organisation is: 'Simple, low-cost rehabilitation surgery for the world's disabled'.
In many developing countries there are large numbers of people crippled by injuries, such as landmines or burns, or other disabilities such as cataracts. Most of these disabilities do not need urgent surgical care, and are
