Envoys can't agree on a timetable or agenda for a key post-election meeting
Talks to lay the groundwork for a meeting between Chen Shui-bian and his election rivals made little progress yesterday.
After an hour-long meeting, envoys for both camps had reached agreement on just one matter - that Mr Chen and his rivals could take part in the meeting using any title they liked.
This means Mr Chen can participate as president, not just as the Democratic Progressive Party presidential candidate, as his opponents had initially wanted.
No agreement was struck on the meeting's timetable or agenda.
Yesterday's talks were held after Mr Chen agreed to repeated calls by the Kuomintang presidential candidate, Lien Chan, and his People First Party running mate, James Soong Chu-yu, for a face-to-face meeting to resolve the impasse arising from the March 20 presidential election.
