Three exotic offerings from the Geneva Motor Show

Little-known carmaker Koenigsegg holds the Guinness world record for the fastest street-legal car. The small Swedish outfit achieved this distinction last year with the CC8S. This year, it hopes to defend the speed crown with a revamped model, the CCR, unveiled in Geneva last month.

In designing the body of its new two-seater coupe, Koenigsegg says that it has focused on perfecting the aerodynamics of the CC8S.

Sporting a new headlight arrangement, refined side air intakes that draw more air over the engine, and resculpted rear end, the CCR does have a slightly sleeker profile. A redesigned front splitter with greater downforce and new split rear wing, both optional extras, complete the external optimisations.

Under the hood, the Swedish marque has stuck with the same mid-rear mounted Ford SVT Cobra 4.6-litre V8 used in the CC8S. However, it has matched that with a twin-screw compressor custom designed by Lysholm of Sweden, which delivers a higher boost-pressure of 1.2 bar. The new supercharger allows the CCR to reach a peak output of 806 horsepower and pull 920 Nm. This substantially betters the CC8S, which is rated at 655 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque.

As for the performance, the CCR can reach 100km/h from standstill in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 395km/h - numbers that put more famous names such as Ferrari and Lamborghini to shame.
