Your leader adopts without scepticism the nomenclature of the US inquiry into the 9/11 attacks ('No official should be exempt from 9/11 probe', March 31).
This is one important flaw in the leader. Although self-described as independent or non-partisan, the commission is loaded with hyper-partisans from both parties. Second, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice's public testimony is not necessary to the substance of its work, but is needed to create the appearance of a comprehensive review in an election year.
Beware political games. Dr Rice has already provided detail and substance in scores of hours of closed-door testimony. In public, she and the administration will be both blindly supported and pilloried throughout. Independent? Bipartisan? Please.
