Californians spoof the subcontinental divide

CitySeen recently got a taste of the parallel universe created by Badmash, a group of 20-something Californian animators.

Their most popular spoof product, the Singhsons, recently popped into my e-mail inbox. Imagine the Simpsons relocated to South Asia and you get the idea. The familiar family is replaced by Omar, Marji, Bartinder, Mugglie and Lisa Jit Singhson.

The weekly strip is sent out free of charge.

'If you are a brown person, or are friends with a brown person, or an individual who has spoken to someone who is brown, then chances are you have seen the Singhsons pop into your inbox,' says Nimesh Patel, one of the three creators.

'After releasing the Singhsons, our server crashed several times because the number of hits to the site went up by an astronomical factor. If you punch 'Singhson' or 'Singhsons' into Google, you'll see what I mean ... this thing is everywhere!' says Sanjay Shah, another of the Badmash crew.

Here's hoping they make a version starring some Chinese faces. Check out www.badmash.org/singhson.php.
