Promising teenager Eva Yoe Hoi-ning has taken a break from her studies in the United States to help Hong Kong's bid for the Queen Sirikit Cup at the Wu Yi Fountain Palm Golf Club in Jiangmen, China, from Monday.

Yoe, 19, represented Hong Kong at last year's Queen Sirikit Cup in Korea, where the team finished eighth. Yoe, the Hong Kong Ladies Open champion, finished strongly with a round of 71 - the only Hong Kong team member to record an under par score for the week.

Hong Kong selectors opted for a mix of experience, youth and current form when selecting their squad for the three-day event. Anna Yu Lai-har and Theresa Chan Yuk-lan have also represented Hong Kong at previous Queen Sirikit Cup tournaments.

'Last year, we narrowly lost to China by a single shot, while Thailand were a few strokes ahead of us. I would love to see us finish in fifth place and I believe we have a team competitive enough to do just that this year,' said Hong Kong Golf Association chief executive Iain Valentine.

Yu, 38, is one of Hong Kong's top amateur golfers, regularly finishing in the top three at domestic events and was the runner-up at the Dunlop Ladies Closed Championship at Fanling last month.

Chan, 44, has represented Hong Kong at two previous Queen Sirikit Cups in New Zealand and India.
