A second Scooby-Doo movie was inevitable - after all, Warner Brothers made US$150 million from their first big-screen adaptation of the cartoon series.
In Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed the original cast returns with Matthew Lillard playing Scooby-Doo's mate Shaggy, Freddie Prinze Jr as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, and Linda Cardellini as Velma. And, of course, the computer-generated Scooby-Doo.
Any surprises from the actors? Sorry, none. But the animated Scooby-Doo is a lot livelier, and is sometimes better than the humans - at least he does not wear the same expression throughout the movie.
A museum in Mystery Inc's hometown Coolsville displays a collection of items from the gang's previous cases which suddenly become scary monsters, turning Coolsville upside down. TV reporter Heather (Alicia Silverstone) puts the blame on Mystery Inc. To save the town, and their reputation, the gang sets out to find the truth.
Director Raja Gosnell creates a colourful, fantasy world, with extravagant and eye-catching special effects, but don't expect anything genuinely creative.
Monsters Unleashed is easy to digest and helps you leave your worries behind for a while.
