Four senior officials have been punished over the lantern festival stampede which left 37 revellers dead in the capital's Miyun county in February.
County chief Zhang Wen had resigned and also lost his position as deputy secretary of the county Communist Party, Xinhua said.
However, county party secretary Xia Qiang was given a 'rebuke' by the Communist Party and was able to keep his job because he only shouldered 'leadership' responsibility, Xinhua said.
Chen Xiaohong was stripped of her position as deputy party secretary, while deputy county chief Wang Chunlin received an administrative warning as well as a party rebuke.
None of the four officials will face criminal charges.
Xinhua said that only two unidentified officials who were found to be directly responsible for the tragedy would face trial.
