Wong Wing-wah had a big game for Jockey Club Ti-I College just when they needed it.
Wing-wah started at centre and helped Ti-I get past Diocesan Boys' School (DBS), 41-32, and secure a place in the boys' basketball final of the Rosaryhill Sports Tournament. Ti-I will meet Aberdeen Baptist Ming Choi College, who thumped Immaculate Heart of Mary College, 47-29, in the final game of the boys' round-robin play.
'Two of our boys who normally play in the front-court weren't able to come today,' Ti-I coach Choi Fong-yue said. 'He's [Wing-wah] normally a small forward but we had to use him as a centre.'
Choi had no complaints with his replacement in the key role.
Wing-wah gave an impressive performance, drawing double teams, grabbing offensive rebounds and controlling the defence. None benefited more than guard Au Kay-ming, who drained several three-pointers after Wing-wah crashed the boards.
'[Wing-wah] is an important player to our team,' Choi said. 'He set up his teammates well.'
