The reports about David Beckham's affairs are a hot topic among Niuniu's friends. After all, if you were to ask them if they've ever fantasised about having an affair with one of their idols, every single one would say yes.

For a long time, their idol was Ricky Martin. Beibei's company brought Martin to China in 1998, and she and Lulu got front-row seats to see him. From then on, he became their No1 idol. Although Niuniu was in America at the time, Martin was big there, too, and she also caught 'Ricky fever'.

The three of them became huge head-over-heels fans. They'd watch his videos over and over again: The Cup of Life, Livin' la Vida Loca, She Bangs ... They liked him because he was sexy, handsome and explosive. And he didn't seem arrogant. Not like those Chinese pop stars who think they're big shots even though almost no one knows them outside China.

No matter what people said about Martin - that he's gay, that he doesn't write his own songs, that he lacks creativity and doesn't have any new ideas - the girls defended him. So what, they'd say. He's soo hot! But pop idols come and go.

'When I was in England, I had no idea what was popular in China,' says CC. 'When I came back, I couldn't understand the songs they were playing, especially those Japanese and Korean stars everybody was talking about. It made me feel so out of it. When we have different idols, we don't have things in common to discuss.'

Lulu agrees. 'My mother used to really like an old movie star called Wang Xingang or something,' she says. 'My father was always quite jealous, as if my mother was actually having an affair with him.'

'My dad likes Ingrid Bergman,' says Niuniu. 'He says she's noble and mysterious. I don't know how many times he's watched Casablanca.'
