Rape sparks grim police warning
MEN have been advised to escort their wives or girlfriends home at night following the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Tuen Mun yesterday.
Superintendent Nigel Croft, the divisional commander of Tai Hing Police Station said that, to prevent women from being accosted, husbands and boyfriends should escort them home.
''Very often, women are chosen as soft targets not necessarily for rape but for robbery,'' he said.
The attack happened at 1.15 am, while the girl was waiting for a taxi near Siu Hong Court after visiting her boyfriend.
Mr Croft said the victim was waiting for a taxi to take her to her Tuen Mun town centre home, when a man dragged her to a nearby container depot, raped her and took $100.
Tai Hing police described the man as about 20, of medium build, 1.65 metres tall, with glasses and short hair. He was also reported to have a tattoo on his left shoulder.
