Giovanni Muratore defeated Jack Hui, 6-3, 7-6, in the final of the 2004 AIA Hong Kong National Tennis Championships at Victoria Park Centre Court.
Hui, the No 4 seed who is a full-time scholarship athlete at the Sports Development Board, topped No 2, Andrew Town, while No 3 Muratore upset No 1 Yu Hiu-tung in the semi-finals.
'Jack played pretty well,' said Peter Hung, executive director of the Hong Kong Tennis Association. 'But Giovanni served very well and Jack failed to return as he usually does with his forehand.
'He needs to have more exposure in important matches. But, by making the final, he gained a lot of confidence.
'He beat a good number of players in the early rounds.'
Hui - who strained an abdominal muscle earlier in the tournament - has battled injuries for the past three years. The 19-year-old has had shoulder surgery and he also went under the knife to correct an abnormal heart beat.
