A few weeks ago, Tech Talk received an e-mail from a reader who was having trouble using iCable to log on to his Yahoo! POP account. We have a follow up message:
Two days after I sent you a note, the POP access started to work. No settings were changed, it simply started working. I have had no problems since then.
As suggested in your column, I followed up with Anthony Mak at iCable about two weeks ago. I just wanted to make sure they had found and solved the problem. Mr Mak agreed that this sounded like an ISP problem, but he was unaware of anything different that had happened at iCable.
He said the company did not have a way to check how Yahoo! Mail POP Access worked.
I suggested simply paying about US$20 for a dummy account from Yahoo!
I felt this would be a simple thing to do, as the Yahoo! service is one of the most popular e-mail services on the market.
Mr Mak contacted me and said the firm had done more checking. But engineers were not able to identify a reason for the disruption in the Yahoo! POP Service.
