Drake Hicks scored a late third-period goal and Yannick Wong netted a hat-trick as SUNDAY beat Esprit in the finals of the Pee Wee Division Championship, 5-3, at the Festival Walk Glacier ice rink on Sunday.

'It was an exciting way to end the [ice-hockey] season,' said SUNDAY group managing director Bruce Hicks.

'We played well and I'm happy for all the kids.'

Trailing 4-3, Esprit had control of the puck at mid-ice, when Drake intercepted a pass and broke away towards Esprit goalie Daniel Booth. Drake calmly slipped the puck past Daniel to ice the game. Drake has spent hours honing her skills.

'She practises in the driveway at home,' Hicks said of his daughter. 'She's developed a good shot.'

SUNDAY took a 2-0 lead thanks to Yannick. He scored with 7:02 left in the first period and again in the second with four seconds to go. 'I got a pass in front of the net and I was able to put it in,' Yannick said. 'It was my final game for the season so I wanted to play well.'
