Warner girl Fiona Sit's debut album F shows what the Canto-pop industry is really good at - marketing.
The album is a collection of 11 catchy and easy-listening ballads. Like many new Canto-pop stars, her singing is mediocre. But, unlike some of her counterparts, she is very good-looking and has the kind of girl-next-door image that appeals to all ages.
To be fair, her debut single Keanu Reeves' Reply Letter is not a bad song. The melody is plain but the lyrics are imaginative, telling the story of a girl who keeps writing to Keanu Reeves in the hope of receiving a letter back.
Ugly Duckling and Swan Lake, the theme song of a TVB animation, will appeal to children, while tracks such as A Kiss from Madonna and God is a Boy might touch the hearts of young girls. Other tracks such as Chasing are aimed at young boys who may now see Sit as the next Gigi Leung or Kelly Chan.
Music-wise, there's not much to say about this album. But it probably won't matter as it's often good looks, rather than talent, that sell.
