microsoft launches Xbox Live in hong kong
Microsoft last week launched its frequently announced online gaming services in Hong Kong. The Xbox Live service enables gamers to connect their consoles to the internet for live multiplayer gaming, and also to conduct online chatting. Microsoft estimates there are now 750,000 subscribers to its service worldwide. A year's subscription, which works with several local internet service providers, costs HK$368, or $499 with three bundled games.
PalmOne unveils its Treo 600 smartphone
Handheld computing pioneer PalmOne has announced the availability of its Handspring Treo 600 smartphone. The combined phone and personal digital assistant has built-in keyboard, camera and quad-band phone with GPRS, and runs on the Palm operating system. It was released in the United States in October, and in Southeast Asia soon after. The delayed launch in Hong Kong was due to localisation issues. The Treo 600 will be available from Palm distributors for about $5,980. CSL, SmarTone, Sunday Communications and New World Mobility will also sell the phone, though they have not yet announced pricing.
Graham technology opens local office
Business process management firm Graham Technology has opened an office in Hong Kong in the Bank of China Tower to manage its expanding regional business. It will be headed by managing director Ross McGown. Asia-Pacific director Nick Finlayson and will oversee sales operations throughout China, Singapore and Malaysia.
