HONG Kong will be making a bid for the 1995 World Women's Open Championship, with total prize money tentatively set at US$50,000.
Heather Deayton, executive secretary of the Hong Kong Squash Racquets Association, is in Johannesburg to present the territory's bid at this week's World Squash Federation meeting.
''We don't know exactly who else will be making a bid, but we are pretty confident of winning,'' said Tony Choi Yuk-kwan, who will be chairman of the organising committee should Hong Kong be successful.
The HKSRA first considered staging the event at the request of Sarah Fitz-Gerald, chairwoman of the Women's International Squash Players Association, when she was in the territory for the Pak Fah Yeow Open in May.
It is believed that Australia and Malaysia were also interested in hosting the tournament but it is not known whether they will contest Hong Kong's bid.
Choi was instrumental in bringing women's squash back to the territory after three years when he helped to organise the HK$300,000 Pak Fah Yeow event.
