LoDown had a lovely vision of curvaceous masseurs and witty mamasans taking the place of dour democracy fighters and shameless Beijing sycophants in our august Legco chamber after seeing an ad in communist mouthpiece Ta Kung Pao this week. The Federation of Entertainment Industries, which represents more than 300,000 workers at nightclubs, bars, massage parlours and game arcades, took out the ad. It expressed support for the NPC Standing Committee's interpretation on universal suffrage and is seeking a functional constituency seat in the 2008 election. 'We will not tolerate the intolerable ... We run legitimate businesses but our advertisements and our jobs are being denigrated and looked down on,' the ad says. The voices of 300,000 honest workers must not be silenced. Who knows, their representatives might even make more sensible laws on prostitution, gambling and drugs!
