LAST week brought the regional debut on MTV of an underground animation series called Liquid Television - a 30-minute assault of over-the-top graphics, off-beat characters and state-of-the-art animation that had taken the United States by storm and thrown up some cult hero characters.
Beavis and Butt-Head are massive. Of the other segments from Liquid Television 's quilt of episodic series and one-offs, two women in particular catch the eye: the cel animation Aeon Flux with its futuristic shoot-'em-up heroine, whose killing reaches epic proportions, and biker chick puppet Winter Steele, in search of the only thing that ever mattered to her: a biker named Crow.
MTV Asia has slotted its Nike-sponsored series into prime time with a 9.30 pm slot on Saturday (repeats 12.30 pm Sunday, and 2 am Monday).
Look out especially for Invisible Hands, a multi-plane animation film noire pastiche, with great movie moments re-interpreted in Stick Figure Theatre and Soap Opera (the first television soap opera acted by real bars of soap).
