Altogether now: Hey, hey, 16K, what does that get you today?
An obscure British pub-rock band is being catapulted to internet stardom, thanks to their soaring geek anthem Hey, hey 16K.
The tune by M.J. Hibbett & The Validators, and its jaggy video from B3ta founder Rob Manuel, is being linked from all round the Web as nostalgic children of the 1980s remember happier times when 640 kilobytes of memory qualified as a supercomputer.
The catchy homage to 1980s home computers 'is whipping round the world, causing grown men to weep tears of nostalgic joy', according to Mr Hibbett.
A tiny ripple of discontent is spreading across the Asian blogsphere. Arts and football blog Mishoni last week launched its Best Blogs In Asia Awards, inviting visitors to vote for their favourite sites. If that sounds familiar, then perhaps you remember the Asia Weblog Awards, organised by Flyingchair last year.
Mishoni's Giles Dawes said his site 'was inspired by' last year's awards, but Flyingchair's Phil Ingram was naturally a bit put out by the tribute.
'You know, this is a free world and, if he wants to do it, fine. I owned no copyright. But I worked my socks off last Christmas over this,' wrote Mr Ingram. 'Somehow I feel like something has been stolen from me. Am I wrong?'
