Think you've tasted the best of Cantonese food in Hong Kong? Think again. Zhongshan has a culinary tradition to make its namesake proud, evidenced by the fact that chefs from the city routinely take first place in national cooking competitions.

A tour of Zhongshan's countless fine restaurants will help you understand why. If you're not into pigeon, Zhongshan's Shiqi Suckling Pigeon, a regional speciality, just might convert you. Several other delicacies from the district are must-eats. The Xiaolan Fried Fish Balls, Carrot Cakes, steamed Guihua Fish, and nearly bone-free Hand-Torn Chicken are all excellent.

If you have a sweet tooth, the Pineapple Rolls are light and crispy with a small chunk of freshly harvested Shenwan pineapple inside. It's not traditional, but we think they go great with coffee.
