Magnificently robust timepieces for those who like to go to extremes
WATCHMAKERS ARE scrambling to build connections with adrenaline-pumping sports to help sell their products.
Omega is an old master in building sports links, traditionally through its Seamaster and Speedmaster series and recently through the Constellation and Olympic series.
The golf-connected Constellation Double Eagle, now offered as a prize to players who sink a double eagle in any PGA tour of the United States, Europe and Asia, was launched at the Omega European Masters golf tournament in Switzerland last September. It is further augmented this year by two new chronograph models launched at Basel.
The chronograph is fitted with Omega's Co-Axial Escapement designed to reduce friction in the movement and ensure higher accuracy. It also has a column-wheel chronograph with a vertical coupling to ensure no delays in the start, stop and reset chronograph functions.
The Seamaster Professional GMT Co-Axial Chronometer has been richly rewarded by its connection to action hero James Bond, having been in four Bond films since its debut in GoldenEye in 1995. Each time the watch introduced at least one new life-saving feature to help the spy get out of a sticky situation. When a Bond film comes to a cinema in Hong Kong, the watch is soon sold out, according to Elinda Cheng, Omega's marketing director, China Hong Kong.
