A hapless robber who tied up a hotel worker and stole $1,000 cash was tracked down by police because he used his own name to check in. Chan Kwong-king, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of robbery. Mr Justice Thomas Gall of the Court of First Instance adjourned sentencing yesterday until May 28 for psychological reports. Chan checked into the Fu Shing Hotel, Mongkok, on February 18 last year, using his own name and identity card. He then paid $180 to stay one night in a single room. When nightshift worker Chiu Kam-heung, 48, turned up for work, she heard the sound of breaking glass from Chan's room. Chan let her into the room and she cleaned up pieces of a broken glass from the floor, taking it away in the room's litter bin. Later, Chan asked Ms Chiu into his room to return the bin, but she refused and instead slid it through the doorway. Chan then came out of his room wielding a shard of broken glass which he pressed against Ms Chiu's cheek, causing a small cut. After robbing Ms Chiu of $1,000, Chan pushed her into his room and tied her up with a telephone cable before covering her body with a blanket and fleeing from the scene. After Ms Chiu worked herself free, she called police who traced Chan from the guestbook. Chan later told police that he had received a call from a friend asking him out but he did not have money. He then decided to commit the robbery.
