Primary pupils face region's best in maths contest

Ten number-crunchers will represent Hong Kong in the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools in Singapore on May 29.

They will compete with contestants from Singapore, Australia, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Earlier, the Hong Kong students won the first round held at Aberdeen's Singapore International School in which 368 pupils from local and international schools took part.

The Hong Kong team comprises Chung Ping-ngai, Martin Tsang Yiu-ting, Yu Ho-long (all from La Salle Primary School), Wong Ting-chun, Cheung Mun-lau (SKH Ka Fuk Wing Chun Primary School), Tam Chi-yuen, Osbert Wan Long-yin, Hung Ka-kin (St Francis of Assisi's English Primary School), Hugo So Tsz-hin (Singapore International School), and Jonathan Leung Kai-hei (Methodist School AM).
