A long-serving member of the Securities and Futures Commission is jumping ship to take a senior position at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing.
Gerald Greiner, a senior director of the SFC market supervision division, will join HKEx on Monday as deputy chief operating officer and head of the exchange division.
Mr Greiner joined the commission when it was set up 15 years ago. Before that, he worked for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
He will report to HKEx chief operating officer Patrick Conroy, a former SFC colleague.
Mr Conroy had received SFC chairman Andrew Sheng's consent for the move to the exchange, according to sources.
A HKEx spokesman declined to disclose Mr Greiner's new salary but his predecessor, Lawrence Fok Kwong-man, earned $4.5 million a year.
